Arkansas Dept. of Education
The No Child Left Behind Act is broad federal legislation that drastically changes the commitment and focus of public schools throughout the country.  This link on the Arkansas Department of Education's Website is designed to provide school administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents and interested citizens with a constantly updated link to the latest information on Arkansas' ongoing efforts to fully implement this important piece of federal law.
Arkansas Department of Education - Literacy
1.Go to the "Ideas to Build Your Child's Reading Skills" (near the bottom of that site) to find 3 literacy brochures that have been developed through the State Improvement Grant (SIG/SPDG).  These help parents work with their children at home to increase their literacy skills.  Focused on home-based activities at the preschool, early elementary or late elementary levels, these brochures are free and can be printed and shared with anyone.  2. Go to the  "Literacy Matrix" section for ideas to adapt classroom literacy to your child.
Arkansas Department of Education - Parent Info
This section has 1) Consumer Guide for Arkansas Public Schools, 2) Brochure "A Parent's Guide to Helping Your Child Excel", 3) Kindergarten Readiness Indicators, 4) Grade-specific curriculum to have a general idea of what your child will be taught in each grade, and 5) 14 Helpful Tips for Parents.  Some available in Spanish.

The 1-800 toll-free health information line is operational Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with voice mail option after hours or on weekends.

ArPIE
The ARkansas Parent Information Exchange:  In the Fall of 2003, the Disability Rights Center (DRC), the Parent Training & Information Centers (PTI), the Governor's Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC), and other state agencies began meeting to discuss the educational needs of children in Arkansas with disabilities.  This is the online forum where they post updated information for parents on special events, networking opportunities, support group meetings, most recent articles to share and distribute, laws and regulations, etc.  Many questions can be answered and many resources located at ArPIE.
Arkansas Special Education Mediation Project
This is a free service administered by the UALR-William H. Bowen School of Law and paid for by a grant from the AR Dept. of Education.  Professional, impartial mediators are available statewide to help parents and school districts discuss difficult topics and have a meaningful discussion about the needs of a student. The mediator does not make decisions, but helps focus the discussion and enables people to come to a mutually agreeable solution.  The process is confidential and voluntary and does not affect a parent's due process rights.
Arkansas Support Network
Established in May of 1988 as Family Support Services, Inc., this small group of parents and volunteers incorporated and have been licensed by the state to provide support and assistance to a limited number of families who have children with disabilities living in the home with them.  They continue to provide support to families of Arkansans with disabilities in Northwest Arkansas.

Disability Rights Center
The DISABILITY RIGHTS CENTER (DRC) is a private non-profit agency with offices in Little Rock, Arkansas. Since 1977 the Governor of Arkansas has designated DRC the independent rights protection and advocacy system for persons with disabilities in Arkansas. DRC operates under authority outlined in Federal law and is funded primarily by the Federal government.
Easter Seals Arkansas
Easter Seals' mission is to provide exceptional services to ensure that all people with disabilities or special needs have equal oportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities.
Hope Landing
Hope Landing is located on a beautiful 80-acre farm 5 miles east of El Dorado, Arkansas and is an outpatient clinic offering traditional and non-traditional occupational, physical and speech-language therapy to children with disabilities.  Families of south Arkansas and the surrounding region will have the opportunity to, not only have their children treated, but have them assessed by highly qualified, licensed and professional therapists.

Mainstream is a non-residential, consumer-driven independent living resource center for people with disabilities in Central Arkansas.
Washington Learning Systems
Click on Free Parent Education Handouts to find 46 reproducible language and early literacy activities (3 pages for each activity) in English and Spanish.  These materials are for adults helping young children, with or without disabilities.  The skills addressed are 1) language development, 2) phonological awareness, and 3) general print awareness.  The Hints page gives the parent additional tips on how to do the activity.
